Hiking Day Trips Costa De La Luz
If you are already staying in our area, you can book a day tour with us, either individually or with a group.
A coastal and forest walk. We start our day in the village of los Caños de Meca (sandy beach, freshwater springs, rocks) and walk through the natural park of La Breña along the steep cliffs of Barbate. We enjoy a very nice view over the Atlantic Ocean, in clear weather even as far as Africa; the houses of Tangier can be seen. At Torre del Tajo, a watchtower from the 15th century, we have one last beautiful view of the spectacular cliffs before entering the pine forests. We walk towards el Palomar de la Breña: a pigeon complex from the 18th century. Here we can have a bite to eat in the associated restaurant, before we continue walking towards the coast. On the way we see the Cape of Trafalgar looming. We walk back to Los Caños de Meca, where we can take a refreshing dip. A nice end to the day is a walk around the Trafalgar lighthouse.

In the morning we drive to Tarifa, the southernmost tip of Spain. From the Mirador del-Estrecho we have a beautiful view of the Strait of Gibraltar and the African coastline, only 14 km away from here. The beach at Tarifa is a windsurfers paradise, it is nice to see the skills of the wind and kite surfers. We enjoy some free time to visit the white town and buy a picnic for our walk. After visiting Tarifa we drive to Facinas, where we visit a chapel and a beautiful cemetery: that’s where our walk starts. We walk past the old cork oaks, which are still scaled every nine years with the help of donkeys. We therefore walk on a donkey path, winding, stony, sometimes we have to jump over a water stream. We have a view of a valley with cork oak forests on the other side. We have a picnic somewhere in a nice spot and then walk back.
Distance 12 km / level 1-2 / 3 ½ hours walking.

This walk starts at the high rocks of the Sierra de la Plata, rather inaccessible ridges, spectacular to photograph. The earthen path changes into a sand path, the vegetation changes with it and we now walk through pine forests. There are beautiful views of the ocean and the mountain ridges. Then we come to a ‘valley’, a gorge where you imagine yourself in a western. We walk over it up to a road, which we cross and follow a steeply sloping path that ends at the beach. Rocks in the sea, possibility of swimming and walking along this wild coast. Then we walk back to the road and after a short while we arrive at a small charming bar where we can eat a fish and drink a beer / wine, with that beautiful view of Morocco again. Then we loop uphill through forests and partly over rocks back to our starting point, and drive back to Zahora.

First we are offered a cup of coffee on the mountain in La Muela. It’s an incredibly beautiful view from where we have our coffee, and the nice thing is that we can see exactly where we’re going for a walk later. It is a route that runs down, via a Roman acuaduct with waterfalls and a natural ‘yakuzi’, then we arrive in the inhabited world (well … 7 houses ..) where we sit in a bar with a terrace above the flowing water at Antonio can have a drink. We continue our way, which climbs further uphill on the other side of the motorway to Vejer de la Frontera: the most beautiful white Andalusian village. There we give a tour through the winding streets, with beautiful flowers in the patios, the old city wall and we climb an old city tower. Then we walk to the outskirts of Vejer, where we can eat and drink something in a restaurant while enjoying a beautiful view to the coast and, in good weather, admire the paragliders and penters. Then we walk the road back and have a nice drink on the mountain.
